Gdansk Stag Weekends

Poland's summer capital, Gdansk gives you the best of both worlds; a cosmopolitan city with a buzzing Old Town and a coastal resort with beaches, beach bars and beach babes.

Gdansk is the capital of the coastal tri-city which also comprises the cities of Sopot and Gdynia. Gdansk is the city’s cultural hub with it's beautiful Old Town and is also the heart of the city at night when the Market Square and surrounding cobbled streets fill up with party-goers. Sopot is the beach resort part of town, with a vibrant party scene over the summer months taking place in the clubs and bars to found on the beach-front. The atmosphere is one of fun and relaxation; visitors are usually here to enjoy themselves whilst the local folk are like most people who live by the sea – less stressed than people who don't!

Gdansk is another city in Poland which manages to effectively combine history with modernity. One of Poland’s major business centres, with strong ties to both Germany for historic reasons and Scandinavia due to the sea connection, Gdansk is also a place of historic note and beauty. Here you will find the Gdansk crane, built in the 15th century and then the biggest crane in medieval Europe and St Mary’s church, supposedly the largest brick church in the world. Just some of the highlights in a very fresh and spacious Old Town. Sopot meanwhile is home to Europe’s longest wooden pier.

Gdansk has always had a strong character of it’s own. Having been under the rule of a number of European powers, it was finally granted the status of a ‘Free Town’ in 1919 only to then be at the very beginning of two major historic events of the twentieth century. Firstly it was annexed by Nazi Germany, a move that is considered to be the start of the Second World War. Not only did it build itself back up from the ruins of war, Gdansk then became the centre of the struggle against the Soviet influence that came to dominate Poland after WWII. It was at the Gdansk shipyards where Lech Walesa started his fight against the injustices of that regime.
